Germany has halted signing a controversial anti-piracy accord, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), after the justice ministry voiced concerns.
Latvia put off ratification on Friday. Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have already delayed the process.
The AVAAZ petition against ACTA has already been signed by more than 2 million people, and they are going for 3 million. With a worldwide membership of over 13 million, I am sure we can do better. Those of you who have not yet joined AVAAZ, please do so asap, and add your voice to the worldwide clamour.
ACTA is not only a severe restriction on Internet privacy. It will also affect the availability of generic drugs to those who cannot afford anything else, with the consequent suffering and unnecessary death of those affected.
Furthermore, it may seek to bring all seeds under patent control, with food distribution being under the control of a few multinational companies as a result. These people have only profit in mind, however they get it. Planetary food reserves are already at their lowest levels for years – we cannot afford to mess with the current system. Already, millions go to bed hungry, and food prices are climbing fast.

Don’t forget, we don’t need secrecy. We don’t want secrecy. If anyone claims that secrecy is necessary for any reason whatsoever, our first reaction should always be “PROVE IT!”
For members of government to repeat the same garbage at the top of their voice ad infinitum is not considered proof!
